CBCT is a digital x-ray scanner specifically designed for scanning the head and jaws. The scanner rotates 360 degrees around the patient’s head in a matter of seconds. The x-ray is a low energy fixed anode tube similarly used in panoramic (OPG) machines. The cone shaped x-ray provides 360 views that can be presented in 2D image and 3D volume for advanced planning and diagnosis.
The actual CBCT scan takes between 6 – 20 seconds (depending on the required scan size). The total appointment time (including registration, positioning, scanning, reconstruction, and scan verification) is less than 30 minutes.
Whenever 3 dimensional information is needed for the diagnosis, treatment planning, or management of conditions in the jaws and the maxillofacial complex.
CBCT is used by general dentists and specialists to improve diagnosis and treatment planning in the following cases:
Dental implants
Oral and maxillofacial surgery
Oral and maxillofacial pathology
Orthodontics
Temporomandibular joint
